This is another shot taken in the Cortez, FL area. The fishing industry is alive and well here even though there are fewer boats here than there used to be. I guess that's true about a lot of quite a bit of the Florida heritage that I remember from my early days here. Cortez, Appalachicola and Fernandina Beach are three locations that come to mind where the old fishing fleet days are hanging on. I'm hopeful of finding more areas like this as I get out and specifically look for them.

Little Blue Heron
I took this photo from a boat travelling the waterways near Cortez, FL. Cortez is one of my favorite destinations whenever I need a trip back to the "Old Florida". There are some good restaurants, beaches and lots of photo opportunities. This Little Blue Heron sat quietly in the mangroves even though we got within 20 feet of his perch. I guess he's used to the small boat traffic in the area.

White Pelicans
OK - there may be a few brown pelicans in the mix and maybe another odd bird but these are predominantly white pelicans. These birds spend the summer in the upper midwest and come to Florida like other varieties of snowbirds. These don't clog the highways and make the wait times at the local restaurants longer. This photo was taken at the commercial fishing docks in the old town of Cortez, FL.

This egret appears to be getting serious about fishing. Taken on the commercial docks in Cortez, FL.
