I keep going back to Fernandina Beach and always get shots of shrimp boats.  I love any kind of working boat but these are at the top of the list.

Miss Lewis - Fernandina Beach

We went back to Fernandina Beach yesterday to try and capture some more images of Cumberland Island and the old town of Fernandina.  It was windy and very choppy on the waterway so we scrubbed the boat trip and walked the city.  This shrimpboat was the only one moored along the Front St docks.  The weather was amazing.

Tarpon Springs Shrimp Boats

 

These shimp boats were moored along the Anclote River in Tarpon Springs.  If you haven't experienced this old sponge diving town it's a nice place to spend a day.  The Greek heritage is still prevalent along the river and there are some very good restaurants.  There are boat tours and sponge diving demonstrations if you are interested in that sort of thing.  Tarpon Springs is surrounded by the urban sprawl of Tampa Bay but this one little pocket along the river has remaned largely untouched.

More Georgia Shrimpboats

I decided that since I ventured out of Florida for the first time on this blog that I would follow it up with another shot of the shrimpboats at Darien, GA.  This image was from another trip to Savannah, seems like every time I go through Darien it's either storming or raining or very foggy.  The weather always makes for interesting photos in my opinion.  I expect I'll be back to Florida images for my next post.

Georgia shrimp boats

I do get out of Florida every now and then, not that often and not for very long.  I took this photo on the way back from Savannah where my wife and I had a great little vacation.  Mrs. Wilkes boarding house is one of my very favorite places for lunch, it's even worth standing in line for which I absolutely despise doing.  The photo was taken in Darien, GA.  There was a pretty significant storm moving in from the west while the sun was rising in clear morning skies in the east.  The combination made the lighting difficult to shoot but I really like the result.  Darien is a very small town but it is very photogenic and close to Sapelo Island.  The coastal marsh environment is my favorite, something about mud flats, oyster beds, etc., that just makes me feel at home.
